SMART, Marin First Responders To Conduct Drill Wednesday

The full-scale drill involving role players as injured train passengers is intended for personnel to practice emergency response procedures.

San Rafael, CA -- On Wednesday, April 26, numerous Marin County fire departments and law enforcement agencies will gather in San Rafael to conduct training exercises -- one in the morning and one in the afternoon -- involving a SMART train with multiple injuries.

With the opening of SMART service around the corner, first-responder agencies and Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) are ensuring response protocols to incidents are as effective and efficient as possible, according to a news release from the county. Trainings for various scenarios help prepare emergency personnel for real incidents involving a train, officials said.

The full-scale drill involving role players as injured patients is intended for personnel to practice emergency response procedures involving entering the train, triaging patients, train evacuation techniques and coordination with emergency medical crews, local hospitals and air response units from CHP, REACH, CAL STAR and Sonoma County Sheriff.
