Purchase options and add-ons
“In his new book, Pete Hoekstra cuts to the core in identifying how a radical Islamist agenda left to its own devices cannot reconcile with Western ideals of tolerance and acceptance. Architects of Disaster creates the necessary framework in which future administrations can apply lessons learned to better inform critical foreign policy decisions.”
— Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts and 2012 Republican Presidential nominee
“A graphic autopsy of what went wrong in Libya and why.”
— James Jay Carafano, Heritage Foundation
“Pete Hoekstra’s thorough examination of how the Obama Administration’s misguided policies contributed in the past few years to Libya’s disintegration is must reading. This insightful history and analysis is worth careful study, especially as America’s citizens debate what policies should come next after President Obama leaves office.”

- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2015Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase'Architects of Disaster: The Destruction of Libya' certainly allows the reader to understand how conditions in Libya deteriorated to such a point that our consulate was unsafe and the tragedy of Benghazi was inevitable!
The U.S. had assisted in overthrowing Gaddafi by arming and training jihadists, and then walking away and leaving all these unaccounted for weapons behind. At the time I remember members of congress questioning "where are the weapons?" A question never answered - the weapons were now in terrorists' hands.
It comes as no surprise that the Obama administration and, of course, Hillary Clinton think so little of the American people as to simply blame an anti-Islamic video by an unknown filmmaker rather than take ownership of the disaster they created.
I particularly like "Lesson 8: Foreign Policy Matters - A Lot" , found on page 135 of Rep. Hoekstra's book. Excellent advice from Rep. Hoekstra as we look toward our future elections. As he continues advice in the final chapter, America must build a steady foreign policy with bipartisan support. This would be the lesson learned from the disaster in Libya.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2015Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI was hoping for more red meat about the very things Obama and Clinton did to totally screw up the entire Middle East. The author points out the naïveté, delusion, and hubris these two exhibited with their feckless policies. Both thought they (and their inner circle) were vastly superior intellectually to the generals who were advising them and therefore refused to heed their advice. But I thought most of the book was just a rehashing of the news that has been reported all along. I suspect we may learn a lot more about what really happened in Libya after the conclusion of the Trey Gowdy hearings. Overall, not a bad book -- I just expected a little more.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI pray that citizen's of New Hampshire have read this book. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for change. Once America falls. things are not going to come together as you expect. Don't let it happen. I found the subject matter to be well presented. If you have a hard copy or paper back, please pass it on to a friend or love one.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2016Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book is an easy read for anybody who would rather read one book about the whole story of the failure in Benghazi and who should be held responsible. Most likely nobody will be held accountable but thats another story.....
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2015Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseGood inside information Well written and presented. Raises questions on why our government's reasons for the overthrow of Gaddafi. The result a country without government and a terrorist hotbed. The first of the chips to fall due to a failed foreign policy.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSpot on for understanding the Middle East. The recommendations at the end are very insightful for a future path to success in the Middle East.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI especially liked the non-partisan treatment of the whole period from the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979 to recent events in 2014; drawing conclusions from lessons learned and the author's recommendations in going forward.
